Garden calendar: The most important tasks throughout the year

đŸŒ± Spring (March – May)

  • Rotary tiller : From March onwards, as soon as the ground is frost-free, the soil can be prepared for sowing and planting. Ideal for loosening, aerating, and mixing in compost or fertilizer.

  • Lawn trimmer : From April/May onwards, when the grass grows stronger, for lawn edges and hard-to-reach areas.

  • Hedge shears : First light shaping cuts in May, before the birds' breeding season begins (Attention: Observe the cutting rules in your region!).

  • Pole pruners : In March, old branches and winter damage can be removed. Use sparingly from May onwards.

☀ Summer (June – August)

  • Motorized tiller : Less commonly used, more for cultivating vegetable beds (loosening weeds, breaking up soil).

  • Lawn trimmer : Permanently useful for maintaining lawn edges, especially after every mowing.

  • Hedge shears : The main cut is in June after the breeding season to shape hedges. A second shaping cut can be done in August.

  • Pole pruner : Use only when necessary for overhanging or bothersome branches, preferably on dry days.

🍂 Autumn (September – November)

  • Motorized tiller : Ideal in September/October for digging and incorporating compost or green manure.

  • Lawn trimmer : In use until October to keep the lawn clean before winter.

  • Hedge shears : Last trim in September, then leave the hedges winter-proof.

  • Pole pruners : Suitable from October onwards for pruning trees for winter. Particularly useful for removing deadwood.

❄ Winter (December – February)

  • Rotary tiller : Not to be used as the ground is frozen. Perform maintenance and cleaning.

  • Lawn trimmer : Not in use. Charge the battery and store in a dry place.

  • Hedge shears : Not to be used (observe legal cutting restrictions). Only in February, possibly a light trimming if the weather is frost-free.

  • Pole pruners : Only in exceptional cases and in frost-free weather for shaping cuts or removing deadwood.

👉 Summary :

  • Spring & Autumn : Peak season for the rotary tiller.

  • Summer : Focus on lawn trimmers and hedge trimmers.

  • Autumn & early winter : Use of the pole pruner for tree care.
